Beautiful Girl Elinby  her older sister, Megan

Elin looks beyond herself and sees the world with kindness and compassion. She's twelve and lives in New South Wales, Australia.

Elin is very creative — she paints, draws comics, and plays mallet percussion and viola in her school band and orchestra.

Elin also enjoys building with Lego, reading the Wings of Fire books, riding her scooter, swimming, listening to music, singing, acting, and playing her drum kit. Her plush toys, Lego treehouse model, sketchbook, watercolor paints, and rock and crystal collection are some of her favorite things.

Lego time. Surfing.She loves to travel around the world. Two and a half years ago, our family moved from Australia to Germany. Even though Elin found it hard to settle into a new country and a new school, she volunteered to be a leader in the school well-being program, to help others who were lonely or sad or just trying to cope with changes in their own lives.

Since returning to Australia, Elin continues to help others whenever she can. She’s worked hard to learn more about emotions and resilience.

Elin also loves playing sports, especially ice hockey, even though it isn’t a common sport in Australia. She thinks it’s great that all genders can play together on the same team. Elin welcomes new players and supports and encourages her teammates, whether winning, losing or just having fun.

Last year in Germany, one time when Elin and Megan were home alone, a neighbor digging a new driveway discovered an old, unexploded bomb from World War II. Everyone in the neighborhood had to evacuate so the bomb could be safely detonated.
Megan remembers: “Elin and I were so scared. Our dad had still not come back and mum said she couldn’t get back to the house in time. We would have to evacuate on our own. Amid the panic, Elin tried her best to stay calm and brave.”
