How have gender and racial justice and equality gotten better — in your life and around the world?

inspired and hopeful for the future.

I really like the movie Turning Red. It is a funny, charming and great movie that I highly recommend to tweens. Did you know that “turning red” means to get your period? Anyway, the movie is about a girl named Melin Lee who turns into a red panda whenever her emotions get out of control. You should watch it!

Dear Readers,

We have an anniversary to howl for this year and every year! June 23rd, 2022 was 50 years since Title IX was made a law.

What is Title IX exactly?

The law prevents discrimination against gender or sexual orientation in education programs or activities receiving federal financial assistance.

This means school sports teams, college admissions, plus preventing any kind of gender harassment in schools. It applies to every educational program that gets funding from the U.S. government.

Title IX is so important because it helps students, no matter what
their age or gender, feel safer in educational settings.

It helps to protect everyone, from elementary school to college.
As long as a program gets federal funding, they must follow Title IX.

Love, Luna

Title IX has had very positive results and there is still a lot more
forward progress
to work toward.

“An exponential increase in girls’ and women’s participation in sports is perhaps Title IX’s most notable achievement and one of the law’s most lasting legacies.

Sports participation is vital to the development of girls and women. The benefits are far reaching and lifelong, including improved physical, social and emotional health; enhanced confidence; academic success; leadership opportunities; and so much more.”
