Freida, 13, Idaho (top): I’ve found some quotes that inspire me in my everyday life, so I decided to put them on something I look at every day: my binder. I wanted my binder to refl ect who I am as a person, so I also included a few favorite drawings I’ve done. I enjoy doing art lettering and do it for relaxation all the time. My binder inspirations are a running project—I expect some parts of it to change as I change.
I use different art tools; sometimes I paint a background with acrylic or watercolor paint and then write the quote with a sharpie marker. I love fi nding inspirational quotes. Sometimes if I’m feeling down, I’ll write sayings on sticky notes and have a family member hide them around the house for me to fi nd! I love the fl ower quote: "A fl ower doesn't think of comparing itself to other fl owers—it just blooms." To me, it means that you should always be yourself, despite what others might think.
Salute the shero who inspires you! The U.S. Women's National Soccer Team shout-out to author Audre Lorde, Sojourner Truth, Malala Yousafzai, and more. Put your shero on your shirt!EJ, 11, California: “We can complain that rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.” I like this quote by Abraham Lincoln and drew the picture to go with it. It reminds me that before I start disliking something, I should look at it from another perspective. For example, when I started fi fth grade, I thought it was going to be really hard. But it was actually pretty fun—I just had to focus on the stuff that was fun.
Victoria, 12, Wisconsin: I like this quote—"Stand tall and wear a crown like a pineapple"— because not only do I love pineapples but I fi nd it really inspiring! This quote reminds anyone to stand tall, be brave, and remember who you are.
Jay, 11, Virginia: I love this quote by Coco Chanel because it shows that being unique is amazing. It reminds me that even if I’m more different than a lot of people, I’m a wonderful person. I found this photo on a free site, and just put it together with the words.
